Opened by Michael Popovic since 2002, Mediterraneo has gained a reputation for its foods and services. Recently, it has won an Award for Excellence by Restaurant and Catering Association and becomes the 2006 Best Steak Restaurant of Victoria.

Mediterraneo’s charcoal grill cooking method enables most of the fat to drip away and provides a delicious, healthy meal with a distinct flavour imparted by the wood smoke. Not only the best ingredients are required but also the chefs’ attention to details is counted on to ensure the food quality and consistency.

High ceilings, light, rendered stone walls, colourful modernist impressions of a Spanish bullfight and the soft yet complex sounds of the flamenco guitar in the background inspire thoughts of a southern European holiday… The restaurant releases the carefree vibes of the Mediterranean in every way. From the cosy ambience of the bar and restaurant to the Al Fresco style of dining in the courtyard and the exclusive corporate function room upstairs, Mediterraneo is a delightful place to enjoy a meal.

Anyone who has lived in Europe will be familiar with the style of cooking and the relaxed atmosphere that the Mediterraneo has to offer. Famous guests who have chosen to dine at the Mediterraneo include world champion boxers Kostya Tszyu and Shannon Taylor, artist Charles Bilic, Ferrari racing team, actor and television celebrity Sam Newman, Minister for the Arts Mary Delahunty and many others.

Kitchen opening hours:
Lunch: 12 - 2.30 pm (Thu & Fri only)
Dinner: 6 - 10pm (Tue - Sunday)
Sunday lunch and Monday dinner can be arranged for group functions.


AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE 2006

The 2006 Awards for Excellence by Restaurant and Catering Association were presented on Monday 11 September at the Olympic Room at the MCG. Mediterraneo Charcoal Grill was proudly chosen to be the winner in the Steak Restaurant category, finalists of which include Vlados ( Richmond ) and Squires Loft City Steakhouse, and become 2006 Best Steak Restaurant of Victoria.

Mediterraneo is a finalist in the Steak Restaurant category of the 2007 Awards for Excellence by Restaurant and Catering Victoria. The winner of the category will be revealed at the presentation ceremony on Monday 17th September 2007 at Studio 3 @ Crown.
